A comeback Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a torrid year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court after that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was finished.

But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an better serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
